The new building will add to an existing day centre on the outskirts of Sligo, providing much needed accommodation for elderly people.

The existing centre, a protected structure will be sympathetically extended to provide a larger day centre and administrative offices. A new residentially building will be linked to this using well lit cloisters to help link the internal environment to the pleasant setting of the site complete with an existing garden.

The residential element of the building is broken into several smaller blocks to reduce the mass of the scheme and to provide a more human scale for the residents in a manner that reflects the traditional scale of domestic housing.

Throughout, top lit corridor spaces will fill the building with natural light. The placing of the services for the building provides a defensive buffer between the public open road and the private spaces where the residents will live
